Chinese Silkie Chickens

Uncertain Origins
Chinese Silkies are believed to have originated in Asia, although despite the name it is unclear whether it was in China, Japan or India.

Not your regular chicken
This species is different from other chickens in a couple of important ways. Chinese Silkies can’t fly because they have no barbs on their wings. They also can’t swim because water doesn’t run off their wing feathers. Other chickens have four toes on each foot but Silkies have five, and birds that are bred for exhibitions must have feathers on their middle toe.

Down on the farm
Silkies are docile, curious and despite their soft, delicate appearance are reasonably robust. These birds can be domesticated and are often regarded by their owners as a real pet.
